Track GLS packages across Europe, Canada and the United States with your tracking number to see delivery updates.

Track GLS packages

GLS

GLS, short for General Logistics Systems, is an international parcel and logistics network headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The group focuses on parcel delivery and related logistics services, with its own operations across many European markets and selected operations in Canada and the United States. GLS also works with network partners to extend cross-border delivery beyond the countries where it operates directly.

Parcel delivery is at the core of GLS services. Depending on the country, customers can use domestic and international parcel shipping, business delivery solutions, express products and optional services for particular delivery requirements. GLS also operates freight distribution networks in selected markets, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Hungary, Canada and the United States.

Recipients can receive GLS packages at home and, where available, through GLS Parcel Shops, GLS Points, lockers and other alternative delivery locations. Services such as FlexDeliveryService can provide eligible recipients with delivery notifications and options for changing how or where a parcel is received. The exact options depend on the GLS country, shipment product and service selected by the sender.

For package tracking, 4Tracking allows you to Track GLS packages alongside shipments handled by many other carriers. Enter the GLS tracking number on 4Tracking and let the system identify the carrier automatically, or select GLS manually when needed. GLS also provides official Track & Trace tools through its group and national websites, with some country services additionally requesting the destination postal code.

How GLS shipment tracking works

GLS Tracking is based on scans recorded as a parcel moves through the carrier's network. Tracking information can be updated when a label is created, when GLS physically receives the shipment, when the package passes through sorting facilities and depots, when it goes out for delivery and when delivery is completed or another delivery event occurs.

The GLS Group tracking page accepts parcel numbers and Track IDs. A Track ID may appear on a notification card left after a delivery attempt, while the normal parcel number is generally supplied by the sender in an order confirmation, shipment notification or other shipping documentation. In countries such as Spain, GLS asks recipients to enter the tracking number together with the destination postal code for national and international shipment searches.

How to Track a GLS package on 4Tracking

Copy the complete shipment number supplied by the sender and enter it into the tracking field on 4Tracking. Automatic carrier detection can identify many GLS shipments; if it does not, select GLS manually. Package tracking will then display the available shipment events so you can follow the parcel through the network. If you received a country-specific GLS reference that does not work as a normal parcel number, check the relevant national GLS Track & Trace service because some local systems support additional identifiers.

GLS tracking number formats

GLS does not use one publicly documented tracking-number format for every country and service. Official GLS country sites show several valid structures, so a format used in one market should not automatically be assumed to apply to every GLS shipment.

For example, GLS France documents a parcel number as either an eight-character alphanumeric reference such as 00A6Z78A or an eleven-digit numeric number such as 36631234567. It separately identifies the Track ID, or notification-card number, as an alphanumeric reference containing five or six characters.

GLS Italy documents different local formats. Its Track & Trace page shows a domestic shipment reference consisting of two letters, or a letter and a digit, followed by up to nine digits, with Y1 550012467 given as an official example. For an international shipment search, the same page shows an eleven-digit reference such as 53260112365. GLS Italy also supports a Package ID taken from the barcode, with instructions to omit leading zeros and the GLS letters when entering that particular identifier.

These examples demonstrate why it is best to Track the exact code supplied for your package rather than modifying it to match another GLS format. If the number is rejected, confirm whether you have a parcel number, shipment reference, Package ID or Track ID and use the appropriate tracking option for the country handling the shipment.

GLS delivery times

GLS states that domestic parcels generally reach their destination in less than 24 hours in many of its European operations, while European deliveries are generally between 24 and 96 hours. These are standard network guidelines rather than a universal guarantee. Actual transit time depends on the origin, destination, service, collection time and local operating conditions.

Official GLS Spain information provides useful route-specific examples. Its published transit table for private shipments from Spain lists approximately 1–2 days to France, 2–3 days to Germany, 2–3 days to Italy, 4 days to Croatia and 5–7 days to Finland. The same service information describes European delivery generally as taking about 24–96 hours depending on the destination country.

GLS Austria provides another example of how times vary by route. It states a standard domestic delivery time of 24 hours within Austria and lists approximately 2 days from Austria to Germany, Belgium and Croatia, while destinations farther away can require several additional shipping days.

Islands, remote regions and destinations served indirectly can take longer than mainland routes. Delivery estimates can also be affected by weekends, public holidays, customs procedures for applicable international movements and unexpected network disruptions. Use the latest Tracking events together with the transit estimate for the GLS country and service involved rather than treating a general European estimate as a guaranteed delivery date.

What GLS Tracking statuses can tell you

A status showing that a label has been created does not necessarily mean GLS already has the physical parcel. GLS explains that when a shipment remains at the label-created stage, the sender may have transmitted the shipment information electronically but not yet handed the package to GLS. In that situation, the sender or retailer is normally the best first contact.

Once GLS has the parcel, further scans can indicate movement through distribution centres and the local delivery network. A shipment does not necessarily follow a direct route, and there can be periods between visible scans while it travels between facilities. In markets offering real-time delivery information, additional details may become available on the day of delivery.

What to do if there is a GLS shipment issue

If your GLS package tracking has not updated, first check the number for typing errors and review the most recent status. If it only says that the label was created and GLS has not yet received the parcel, contact the sender. If GLS already has the shipment and the parcel appears delayed, misdelivered or otherwise affected by a delivery problem, use the customer-service channels for the GLS country handling the shipment.

GLS Group specifically directs tracking, delivery and customer-service questions to the appropriate national GLS company rather than using one global customer-service number. When contacting GLS, provide the tracking number so the support team can identify the shipment. The group contact form can also be used for enquiries and includes a field for the parcel number.

For example, GLS Spain lists customer support at +34 91 080 62 29 and customersupport@gls-spain.com, and also provides WhatsApp and official social-media support for shipment enquiries. In the United States, recipient support is available at 1-800-322-5555, option 2. GLS Canada lists Customer Experience support at 1 888 463 4266 and assistance@gls-canada.com. Customers in other countries should use their local GLS website because telephone numbers, service hours and claim procedures vary by market.

For a lost or damaged shipment, keep your tracking number and any relevant shipping records, photographs or invoices. Formal claims may need to be initiated by the GLS account holder or sender depending on the country and circumstances. For example, GLS Canada states that the account holder can file a claim using the GLS tracking number together with a cost or repair invoice and photographs when applicable.

Frequently asked questions about GLS package tracking issues

Why is my GLS tracking number not working?

Check that you copied the complete shipment number correctly. GLS uses different identifiers and formats in different countries, so make sure you are using the parcel number rather than an unrelated order number. Some national GLS tracking systems also request the destination postal code. If necessary, ask the sender to confirm the correct GLS reference.

Why does my GLS package still show Label created?

GLS explains that this status can mean the sender has transmitted the shipment information but has not yet physically handed the package to GLS. Until the parcel enters the GLS network, the carrier may not be able to provide a delivery estimate. Contact the sender if the status remains unchanged for an unusually long period.

How many digits are in a GLS tracking number?

There is no single worldwide GLS length. Official examples include an eight-character alphanumeric parcel number and an eleven-digit numeric number in France, while GLS Italy documents its own domestic and international formats. Use the exact number supplied for your shipment rather than relying only on its length.

What is the difference between a GLS parcel number and a Track ID?

The parcel number identifies the shipment and is normally provided by the sender or in a shipment notification. A Track ID is another GLS tracking reference that can appear on a notification card after a delivery attempt. GLS Group's online parcel tracking system supports parcel numbers and Track IDs, although available search methods can vary by country.

Why has my GLS Tracking status not changed for several days?

There can be time between scans while a package travels from one GLS facility to another, particularly on longer international routes. Check the expected transit time for the origin and destination. If the parcel is beyond the normal timeframe or the status indicates a problem, contact the appropriate national GLS customer-service team.

How long does a GLS package take to arrive?

GLS states that domestic parcels generally arrive in less than 24 hours in many European markets and that European transit is generally around 24–96 hours. Route-specific estimates vary: official GLS Spain examples include 1–2 days to France, 2–3 days to Germany and Italy, 4 days to Croatia and 5–7 days to Finland for the applicable private-shipment service.

Can I Track GLS packages on 4Tracking?

Yes. Enter the GLS parcel number on 4Tracking to see available package tracking updates. The system can automatically detect many GLS shipments, or you can select GLS manually if automatic identification does not choose the correct carrier.

What should I do if GLS says delivered but I did not receive my package?

Check the delivery information first and determine whether the parcel was received by another person or placed at an available delivery or collection location. If you still cannot locate it, contact your local GLS customer-service team and provide the tracking number. It is also useful to notify the sender because formal delivery enquiries or claims may need to be opened by the party that purchased the shipping service.

Who should I contact about a lost or damaged GLS package?

Contact the GLS company responsible for the shipment in your country and provide the tracking number. Keep the packaging, photographs of damage, invoices and other shipment records when relevant. Because claim requirements differ between GLS companies and services, follow the procedure published by the national GLS operation handling your package.
