Pilot Freight Services is a transportation and logistics business that became part of A.P. Moller - Maersk in May 2022 and was subsequently rebranded as Pilot - A Maersk Company. The former PilotDelivers website and customer tools have since been integrated into Maersk's Ground Freight environment, while existing Pilot shipment Tracking and customer-management tools continue to support shipments created through the network.
Pilot developed a large North American freight network focused on business-to-business and business-to-consumer transportation, including first-mile, middle-mile and last-mile services. It became particularly known for handling large and bulky products such as furniture, appliances and consumer electronics, including home-delivery services where shipments require more specialized handling than ordinary small parcels.
Its transportation portfolio includes expedited domestic freight, scheduled ground services, home delivery, air freight, ocean freight, warehousing and logistics solutions. Pilot also developed cross-border services between the United States, Canada and Mexico. The official network information lists operations in North America as well as western European operations and administrative offices in the Netherlands and Spain, while the verified Pilot operating footprint also includes Germany.
Today, many services and tools that customers previously knew under Pilot Freight are presented under the Maersk brand. Customers with an older Pilot shipment number can still encounter Pilot terminology such as a Pilot number, Pro number, shipment number, CoPilot or home-delivery scheduling. This page therefore uses the familiar Pilot Freight name while explaining how to Track shipments moving through the current Pilot/Maersk Ground Freight system.
How Pilot Freight shipment tracking works
You can Track a Pilot Freight shipment on 4Tracking by entering the shipment tracking number in the tracking field. 4Tracking can automatically identify supported carriers from the number; select Pilot Freight if necessary, press the Track button, and you will be redirected to the results page where the available shipment history and status updates are displayed.
Pilot's official tracking documentation refers to its primary shipment identifier as the Pilot Tracking Number, Pro number or Pro#. The tracking system uses this identifier to retrieve shipment information. Depending on the shipment and the customer tool being used, additional information such as an origin ZIP code, destination ZIP code or customer number may be requested to verify access to more detailed information.
Tracking results can include the shipment date, service level, number of pieces, total weight, origin and destination information, current status and shipment history. Historical official examples show events such as picked up, appointment scheduled and delivered. For home deliveries, eligible recipients may also be able to use the scheduling system to select an available delivery date and time window after the freight has reached the appropriate stage of the network.
Pilot shipment tools are now presented through Maersk's Ground Freight resources. Customers who previously used PilotDelivers may therefore be redirected to a Maersk-branded page when checking package tracking, scheduling a delivery, accessing the customer portal, filing a claim or paying an invoice.
Pilot Freight tracking number formats
Official Pilot Freight tracking API documentation defines the traditional Pilot Tracking Number, also called the Pro number, as a 9-digit numeric number. A structural example would therefore be 123456789. This illustrates the documented format only and is not presented as an actual shipment.
Pilot's documentation also distinguishes the shipment Pro number from customer account identifiers. Older API documentation describes the Pilot account or GO number as an 11-digit account number, but that account number is not the primary package tracking identifier. For ordinary Tracking, customers should use the shipment or Pro number supplied with their freight documentation.
Some Pilot and Maersk systems may display a shipment number rather than explicitly calling it a Pro number, particularly as older Pilot tools are integrated into Maersk. If your reference does not match the traditional 9-digit format, use the complete identifier provided on your current shipping documentation rather than altering it. The sender, retailer or Pilot/Maersk customer-service team can confirm which reference should be used.
Pilot Freight delivery times and supported examples
Pilot Freight does not have one universal delivery time for every shipment. Transit depends on the selected service level, origin and destination, freight characteristics and whether special home-delivery arrangements are required. Official Pilot service materials include First Flight Out, Next Day AM, Next Day PM, Two Day, Three Day and Economy options for eligible domestic shipments.
Pilot's published Platinum Guarantee service rules provide specific examples for eligible shipments in the contiguous United States. Next Day AM is listed for delivery by 12:00 PM on the next business day to AM service points, by 5:00 PM the next business day to PM points, and by 5:00 PM on the second business day to designated extended-service points.
Next Day PM is listed for delivery by 5:00 PM on the next business day to eligible AM and PM points, while extended-service points may require the second business day. Two Day service is listed for delivery by 5:00 PM on the second business day to AM and PM points and the third business day to extended-service points.
The same rules describe Three Day service as delivery by 5:00 PM on the third business day to AM and PM points, with extended-service points on the fourth business day. Economy is listed for delivery by 5:00 PM on the fifth business day to AM and PM points and the sixth business day to extended-service points.
These time commitments relate to specific eligible services rather than every Pilot Freight shipment. The published guarantee rules limit Platinum Guarantee coverage to the 48 contiguous United States and exclude international import and export shipments; Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Canada are handled through non-guaranteed services under those rules. Service capability should be confirmed for the exact origin and destination before relying on a particular delivery commitment.
Large-item home deliveries can also require an appointment, so the final delivery date may depend on when the freight reaches the destination station and when an available appointment is selected. Pilot's scheduling documentation explains that home-delivery appointments are not made available until the shipment has progressed far enough through the network.
How to contact Pilot Freight about shipment issues
For shipment Tracking, delivery questions or service assistance, the current Maersk Delivers resources list the National Customer Service number as 1-800-447-4568. The official contact information describes National Customer Service as available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Customers can also use the official online Contact Us form. The form supports shipment-related requests and allows customers to provide a shipment number along with an origin ZIP code, destination ZIP code or customer number where applicable. Pilot/Maersk also maintains location pages with telephone numbers for individual domestic and international stations.
If freight arrives damaged or another claim is required, the Ground Freight customer resources provide a separate option to file a claim. Preserve the shipment number, delivery documentation, photographs of damage and packaging, and any other relevant evidence rather than discarding the packaging before the carrier or shipper has provided instructions.
For purchases from a retailer, contacting the seller can also be useful because the shipper may have additional access to the freight record and can work directly with its Pilot/Maersk account representative. This is particularly important when the tracking number is missing, the delivery address needs correction or an investigation requires information that only the contracting shipper can provide.
Frequently asked questions about Pilot Freight package tracking issues
Why is my Pilot Freight tracking number not working?
Check that you entered the actual shipment or Pro number rather than an order number, invoice number or Pilot customer account number. Traditional Pilot documentation specifies a 9-digit numeric Pro number. If your newer Maersk Ground Freight shipment uses a different reference, enter the complete identifier supplied on the current shipping documentation without modifying it.
What is a Pilot Freight Pro number?
The Pro number is Pilot's primary shipment Tracking identifier. Official Pilot API documentation describes it as a 9-digit numeric tracking number. It is different from the customer account or GO number used for account identification.
Why does package tracking show an appointment instead of an immediate delivery?
Pilot specializes in freight and large-item home delivery, where recipients may need to schedule a delivery appointment. Eligible shipments can be offered available dates and time windows after the freight reaches the correct point in the destination network. An appointment requirement is therefore normal for some Pilot home-delivery services.
Can I track an old Pilot shipment after the Maersk rebrand?
The former Pilot website and tools have been moved into Maersk's Ground Freight environment, and current customer-resource pages continue to provide access to shipment Tracking. Older Pilot terminology and shipment numbers may therefore still appear even though the surrounding website now carries Maersk branding.
Why has my Pilot Freight Tracking stopped updating?
Freight can travel between terminals without a new public event being posted at every stage. Home-delivery shipments may also pause while awaiting arrival at a destination facility or delivery scheduling. If the shipment is beyond the expected service commitment or has remained unchanged unusually long, contact National Customer Service with the shipment number.
How long does Pilot Freight delivery take?
Delivery time depends on the service purchased. Eligible U.S. domestic services include next-business-day, two-business-day, three-business-day and Economy options, while home deliveries, extended-service areas and international freight can follow different schedules. Check the service level displayed in Tracking or on the shipping documents for the estimate relevant to your freight.
Does Pilot Freight deliver large and bulky products?
Yes. Large and bulky B2C delivery is one of Pilot's established specialties. Its network has handled products such as furniture, appliances and consumer electronics, with home-delivery options and specialized handling available depending on the service purchased.
Why does my Pilot Freight tracking page now show Maersk?
Maersk completed its acquisition of Pilot Freight Services in 2022 and later began integrating Pilot under the Maersk brand. PilotDelivers was transferred into Maersk's digital environment, so Pilot shipments and customer tools can now appear on Maersk-branded Ground Freight pages.
What should I do if Pilot Freight says my shipment was delivered but I cannot find it?
Confirm the delivery location and check whether another authorized person, receiving department, building staff member or household member accepted the freight. Review any available delivery information in Tracking. If the shipment still cannot be located, contact Pilot/Maersk customer service promptly with the shipment number and contact the seller or shipper so they can assist with an investigation.
How do I report a damaged Pilot Freight shipment?
Document the condition of the freight and packaging with photographs and retain all relevant paperwork. Current Maersk Ground Freight customer resources provide a dedicated claim option. Contact customer service or the contracting shipper promptly and follow the claim instructions applicable to the shipment.
